Ok, So: Can We Get Planning?
Ok, so America has banned the entry of European nationals. That’s kind of a huge thing. It’s kind of a massive thing. How, though, are we noticing things like that and not kind of bracing for something on our end—?
You know, there are moments when I feel like the world is gaslighting me, and this is one of them. One on hand, I talk to the managers of Italian luxury brands on Sloane Street, and it’s clear that fashion week (Feb. 18-24) this year was really weird. Tiny bottles of hand sanitizer selling for thirty bucks, people walking around in masks, the streets quiet and eerie, people leaving the city in droves.
And yet even they, talking to me about what they’ve seen firsthand, are kind of like: “it’s no big deal. It’ll be fine. You’re eyeing that cape. Do you like it? It’s out of stock in London, but I’ll totally get it shipped in for you from Milan.”
Like: Thanks — but: WHAT?
You’ll get a cape shipped in from Milan when rates of infection are skyrocketing? How and why do you think anyone over there is going to get on sending out some swanky piece of gear instead of being home with their families trying to think about how they’re going to cope.
Ultimately, I really don’t understand how anyone is managing all of this cognitive dissonance.
All I know is that my pantry is stocked, and we’re gearing up to be able to care for ourselves for at least a month. Will be working to convince my friends to do the same. I feel a bit silly, but then I sit down and think it through, and get back to where I started from — which is seriously concerned.
I want to see a way not to be right. But I just don’t.
So gear up, guys.
